10 UNCOMMONLY USED FILIPINO WORDS

  1. Sulotraniko (E-mail)

Definition: messages distributed by electronic means from one computer user to one or more recipients via a network.

Example: ginamit ko ang sulotraniko upang gumawa ng facebook account.

2. Yakis (Sharpen)

Definition: make or become sharp

Example: aking ni-yakis ang aking lapis upang gamit.

3. Panginain (Browser)

Definition: A computer program that is used to find and look at information on the Internet

Example: aking binuksan ang panginain upang hanapin ang aking takdang aralin.

4. Miktinig (Microphone)

Definition: An instrument whereby sound waves are caused to generate or modulate an electric current usually for the purpose of transmitting or recording sound (as speech or music).

Example: aking ginamit ang miktinig upang ibahagi ang aking nais sabihin.

5. Duyog (Eclipse)

Definition: An occasion when the sun looks like it is completely or partially covered with a dark circle because the moon is between the sun and the Earth

Example: noong nakaraang araw ay nagkaroon ng duyog.

6. Bilnuran (Arithmetic)

Definition: A branch of mathematics that deals usually with the nonnegative real numbers including sometimes the transfinite cardinals and with the application of the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to them.

Example: aking pinag aralan ang bilnuran upang may maisagot sa pagsusulit kinabukasan.

7.Anluwage (Carpenter)

Definition: A person whose job is to make or fix wooden objects or wooden parts of buildings

Example: may bagong bahay ginagawa ang mga anluwage malapit sa amin.


8.Asoge (Mercury)

Definition: A silver metal that is liquid at normal temperatures.

Example: aming pinagaaralan ang asoge sa aming paksa.

9. Payneta (Comb)

Definition: A strip of plastic, metal, or wood with a row of narrow teeth, used for untangling or arranging the hair.

Example: Aking ginamit ang Payneta sapagkat magulo ang aking buhok.

10. Alimusom (Scent)

Definition:  A distinctive smell especially one that is pleasant.

Example: dumikit ang alimusom niya sa aking damit.

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
